Veterinary Technician Credential Process AAVSB

Are you checking your eligibility to take the VTNE and would like more information about credentialing in Colorado?

If you recently graduated from an AVMA accredited veterinary technology program, the next step is to schedule your VTNE. After passing the VTNE, your next steps are outlined here.

To take the VTNE and obtain your credential using an experienced-based pathway, see the options below for more information. Please note, AAVSB’s terminology for experience-based pathways is “on-the-job training” or “alternate pathway”.

Experience-based credential with provisional registration: This pathway is available if you have a provisional registration from DORA, will have 6500 hours of experience completed, and pass the VTNE between 1/1/24 and 12/31/2027.

    1. Download and complete the Work Experience Verification Form
    2. Complete the experienced-based post provisional registration credential application
    3. Schedule and pass the VTNE
    4. Apply for registration with DORA

See the experience-based credential post provisional registration page for more details.
