Volunteers for the Board of Directors oversee the strategic direction of CACVT. CACVT’s goal is to be representative of its membership and strives for diversification within the organization and Board.

General Responsibilities

• Collaborative Leadership & Strategy: Board members help shape the direction of CACVT by setting its mission, supporting the Executive Director, approving policies, and ensuring financial and legal integrity.
• Diverse & Inclusive Representation: All CACVT members can be nominated, regardless of experience level. Non-RVTs can also serve in limited numbers to provide outside perspectives.
• Manageable Commitment: The board meets every 3 months (or monthly when needed), with an additional 2–4 hours per month for committee work. Major commitments include events like the Spring Conference.
• Supportive Onboarding & Growth: New board members receive orientation and mentorship, start as directors, and may move into officer roles. Leadership development is strongly encouraged.
• Meaningful Impact: Board service is a chance to influence the future of the profession, support fellow RVTs, and grow personally and professionally alongside passionate peers.
• Team-Based & Rewarding: Serving on the board is not a solo effort—members work together in a collegial atmosphere, often forming lasting friendships and valuable professional connections.

The Credentialing Council was formed to independently govern the credentialing programs of CACVT. The Council is solely responsible for all decisions relevant to the core aspects of CACVT’s credentialing programs. General Responsibilities of the Council

• Independent oversight: Governs all aspects of CACVT’s credentialing programs.
• Standards & Eligibility: Sets and reviews credentialing and renewal requirements.
• Advisory role: Offers input and ideas to improve credentialing processes.
• Committee leadership: Oversees credentialing-related committees and task forces.
• Skills needed: Strong communication, attention to detail, and Microsoft Office proficiency.

Time Commitment

Low Time Commitment: 1–2 hours/quarterly with a 2-year renewable term.

Membership Committee members support and assist the staff with planning, coordinating, and strategic direction of the membership processes. The Membership Committee is responsible for supporting and assisting the staff with planning, coordinating, and strategic direction of the membership processes. The Membership & Credentialing Manager serves as the chair of the Committee. Committee members can be composed of Board Directors and/or CACVT members.

General Responsibilities

• Support Member Experience: Enhances benefits, events, and recruitment/retention strategies.
• Event Involvement: Helps plan, promote, and support events like the Spring Conference and webinars.
• Strategic Input: Offers ideas for member programs, new benefits, and engagement strategies.
• Sponsorship & Outreach: Assists with sponsor outreach and event support tasks.
• Data-Driven Decisions: Analyzes renewal trends and member data to inform engagement strategies.

Time Commitment

Manageable Time: 1-year renewable term with 2–4 hours/month, more near major events.

Membership volunteers connect with new members to provide information about CACVT’s mission, vision, and values, and exclusive member benefits.

• Reconnect with Lapsed Members: Encourage renewal and continued engagement.
• Member Outreach: Help update contact info and maintain accurate records.
• Strong Communication: Requires clear, professional written and verbal skills.
• Knowledgeable & Detail-Oriented: Must understand CACVT’s purpose and stay organized.

Time Commitment

Consistent Commitment: 1-year term with 2–4 hours of volunteer time per month.

The Advocacy Committee identifies and prioritizes public policy and advocacy issues relevant to CACVT’s mission. Guided by the Advocacy Plan, the committee conducts environmental scans to assess current and emerging legislative topics, proposes organizational positions, and recommends an annual advocacy work plan to the Board of Directors. The committee also develops a rapid-response process for timely decisions and supports board, staff, and volunteers in executing advocacy initiatives.

 

General Responsibilities

• Utilizing the Advocacy Plan, conducts environmental scans to identify both public policy opportunities and advocacy issues to be endorsed by CACVT. These issues can be current  issues that are already in discussion or legislation, ideas to anticipate, or issues to initiate.
• Prioritize identified issues and develop proposed positions.
• Annually, propose an advocacy work plan to the Board of Directors.
• Create roles and responsibilities for the advocacy work plan Create a rapid-response team for decisions and strategy plans that need to be addressed quickly.
• Support CACVT board, staff, and volunteers in carrying out the advocacy work plan.

Time Commitment

The average time commitment for this committee is 4-10 hours per month during the legislative session (January-May), and 1-2 hours per month when the legislature is not in session.

Event Volunteers attend CACVT events and complete tasks to improve the attendee experience during each event. Event Volunteers are CACVT members who assist with CACVT events and complete tasks assigned by the event supervisor.CACVT holds multiple events every year, with Spring Conference being the largest. Event volunteers help make these events possible, uphold the organization’s values, and maintain a high degree of professionalism.

General responsibilities

• Support Events: Help set up, run, and clean up at CACVT events, especially the Spring Conference.
• Assist Attendees: Greet members, manage registration, and answer questions.
• Session Help: Track attendance and moderate lectures when needed.
• Professionalism Required: Strong communication, organization, and punctuality are key.
• Flexible Commitment: Volunteer for a single event or multiple events throughout the year.

Time Commitment

Low Time Demand: 1–2 hours plus time spent at the actual event(s).

What is an “Ad Hoc Task Force”?

A task force is a temporary group of members formed to accomplish a specific objective. Examples include the Credential Renewal Task Force and the Veterinary Practice Act Task Force.
