Credential by DORA Endorsement (Limited Eligibility)

Obtaining a CACVT Credential by DORA Endorsement
(Limited Eligibility)

Did you originally obtain Colorado veterinary technician registration (RVT) directly through DORA’s previous license portability program using an active out-of-state veterinary technician credential? If so, you may be eligible to apply for a CACVT Credential by DORA Endorsement.

In Colorado, veterinary technicians must obtain and maintain both an active CACVT credential and active DORA registration. If you received Colorado veterinary technician registration (RVT) directly through DORA’s previous endorsement process before February 12, 2026, and have not yet credentialed with CACVT, you will need to obtain a CACVT credential before you are able to renew your DORA registration in October 2026.

Active DORA registration is required in Colorado to use, or be represented by, legally protected veterinary technician titles, including Registered Veterinary Technician (RVT) and Veterinary Technician (VT). Active DORA registration or designation may also affect whether an individual may be delegated tasks that require active Colorado registration or designation, or receive recognition of a Veterinary Technician Specialist (VTS) designation.

If you are a Certified, Licensed, or Registered Veterinary Technician in another state and are relocating to, or working in, Colorado, but have not already obtained Colorado DORA registration, please review the Credential by Endorsement pathway instead.  This will be your first step in this two-step process.

Don’t know the expiration date of your DORA registration?

Visit DORA’s public license lookup tool, search your name, and click the blue Details button.  This page should show your full license information, including your License Method, Original Issue Date, and Expiration Date.

To be eligible for this application, your License Method must be Endorsement and your Original Issue Date must be on or before 2/12/2026.

Please read all the following information before submitting your CACVT Credential by DORA Endorsement application below.

– How to Apply –

Applicants who meet the requirements for CACVT Credential by DORA Endorsement noted above should complete the application below.

The CACVT Credential by DORA Endorsement process includes submission and approval of the following:

  1. Complete CE as outlined above based on the DORA registration expiration date.
  2. Complete the Credential by DORA Endorsement application (link below)
  3. Pay all applicable CACVT credentialing fees**

**2-year CACVT credentialing cycle: All credentials are valid from July 1 of each EVEN year – June 30 of the following EVEN year, regardless of when the credential was obtained, and must be renewed before the expiration date.  Credential by DORA Endorsement fees and CE requirements are based on the status and expiration date of the DORA registration used for the application. If your DORA registration is expired or was renewed without obtaining a CACVT credential in October 2024, CACVT may require delinquent credentialing fees, a late fee, and continuing education for each missed credentialing cycle.

Once your CACVT Credential by Endorsement application is approved, you will receive an approval email with next steps for applying for or maintaining DORA registration. A CACVT credential alone does not authorize protected veterinary technician title use in Colorado.
