DESCRIPTION:To celebrate National Veterinary Technician Week\, CACVT is hosting a special webinar featuring Drs. Colleen Duncan and Danni Scott from Colorado State University. \nThey will explore the connection between the triple planetary crisis—climate change\, biodiversity loss\, and pollution—and animal health\, while unpacking the often-overlooked environmental impact of delivering veterinary care. \nDrawing on their research\, Drs. Duncan and Scott will share perspectives from veterinarians\, veterinary students\, veterinary technicians\, and clients on the veterinary profession’s responsibility in addressing these interconnected environmental challenges. Board certified in anatomic pathology\, veterinary preventive medicine\, and epidemiology\, she works on a range of domestic and wild animals. Her current efforts are largely focused on the study of animal health impacts associated with climate change\, the protection of health from environmental hazards and identifying ways to minimize the environmental impact of veterinary care. She is actively engaged in several professional sustainability groups including the AVMA Committee for Environmental Issues\, the ACVPM Sustainability Special Interest Group\, the AAVMC Climate Change Working Group and the Veterinary Sustainability Alliance. \n\nDanielle Scott\, DVM\, PhD\, MESM\nDr. Danni Scott\, a veterinarian and environmental epidemiologist at Colorado State University\, investigates how climate-induced environmental hazards impact animal health\, and in turn\, how the veterinary profession can address climate change through the implementation of best environmental practices in the delivery of veterinary care. She also focuses on enhancing access to veterinary care to promote health and resiliency in communities that face various barriers to receiving it. Her commitment to environmental stewardship extends beyond her research. At home\, she practices urban homesteading—nurturing numerous vegetable\, pollinator\, and native gardens and caring for a flock of backyard chickens. Palmer\, BS\, LVT\, VTS (Anesthesia & Analgesia)\nDarci is a credentialed veterinary technician with more than 26 years of clinical experience and has maintained her Veterinary Technician Specialist (VTS) certification in Anesthesia and Analgesia for over 20 years. She is currently employed at Tuskegee University College of Veterinary Medicine\, where she contributes to didactic instruction\, clinical laboratories and case management of small animal anesthesia cases. \nIn addition to her academic and clinical roles\, Darci serves as the Executive Director of the Academy of Veterinary Technicians in Anesthesia and Analgesia. DESCRIPTION:In 2022\, Colorado passed policy allowing at-home cultivation and use of psilocybin-containing mushrooms\, and created facilitated therapeutic access to psychedelic substances.
