A Certified Veterinary Technician:

If you meet the eligibility requirements for certification, please access the appropriate application from the Applications submenu of Certification &  Membership.

If you do not meet the eligibility requirements for certification, you may also consider becoming an Associate Member of the CACVT! Associate membership is not Certification, but grants access to great member benefits within the veterinary profession.

Application Requirements:

Initial Certification Applicants:

Initial Certification Applicants are individuals who have recently graduated from an AVMA accredited school and passed the VTNE. An ‘Initial Certification Following VTNE Testing” Application requires submission of:

  • A COPY of either your diploma or official AVMA school transcripts

  • Certification Fees

  • VTNE pass score

    • Note: When completing the online application through AAVSB to sit for the for the VTNE, candidates select the jurisdiction in which they choose to credential. AAVSB will submit score reports directly to CACVT for all individuals who select COLORADO as the jurisdiction of choice on their VTNE application. If you do/did not select COLORADO as your preferred / primary credentialing jurisdiction on your VTNE application, you must request an online score transfer through AAVSB at http://aavsb.org/VIVA/score-transfers and it must be received by CACVT before your application is eligible for processing.

Transfer Applicants:

Transfers are individuals who are currently credentialed in another state who are seeking certification in Colorado.

  • Transfer Application

  • A COPY of either your diploma or official AVMA school transcripts

  • Proof of current credentialing from the governing entity in the state from which you are transferring

  • A copy of your VTNE Pass score submitted to the CACVT directly from the AAVSB

Applicants must submit all materials together in one application packet using either the online application or printable application form in the Applications submenu of Certification & Membership. Once all application requirements are fulfilled, you will be a Certified Veterinary Technician in Colorado, your name will be added to the Online Certification Registry,  and a certification card will be mailed to you. Please allow up to 4 weeks for processing.

All CERTIFICATIONS ARE VALID FROM July 1 – June 30 OF EACH EVEN YEAR.
ALL CVTs MUST RENEW CERTIFICATION BEFORE June 30 OF EACH EVEN YEAR.
Certification renewal forms can be accessed online in May of each renewal year.
Please familiarize yourself with CACVTs CE Guidelines, as each CVT is responsible for CE at the time of renewal.
