Rebecca Nusbaum, RVT, VTS (ECC)

Rebecca graduated from Kirkwood Community College in 1999 with an Associate of Science in Veterinary Technology. After graduation she was the lead veterinary technician for the Omaha Henry Doorly Zoo and the Lee G. Simmon’s Wildlife Safari Park.

In 2001, her family moved to the Colorado Springs area, where she worked in emergency medicine, and in 2005, obtained her VTS in Emergency and Critical Care. It was in doing work in ECC that she found she had a passion for transfusion medicine and veterinary blood banking. In 2004 she was instrumental in starting HemoSolutions animal blood bank, and in 2014 she purchased the business.

She has always been a strong advocate for the advancement of veterinary transfusion medicine and blood banking, supporting research, development, and education and raising the standards in all areas of transfusion medicine. She was honored to provide a chapter on Donor Program Management in the Manual of Veterinary Transfusion Medicine and Blood Banking and has lectured and helped provide hands-on learning workshops for IVECCS for several years.  As owner and operations director of HemoSolutions, LLC, she oversees all aspects of the canine and feline blood banking program and consults with clients to provide guidance regarding all aspects of transfusion medicine care and blood banking. She has over 20 years of experience in veterinary blood banking and well over 23 years of experience as a veterinary technician.

Outside of work, she enjoys time with her husband and 4 kids, a son-in-law and daughter-in-law, and 4 grandchildren. Her fur babies include 4 horses, 2 dogs, and 1 cat. Although she is not great at any, she enjoys riding, skiing, gardening, and multiple crafts.
