Well-being for Veterinary Technicians in the Hospital and Beyond
Making a career as a veterinary technicianis both deeply rewarding and incredibly challenging. The outside world thinks it’s puppies and kittens and unicorns and rainbows for us every day – the reality is, it’s difficult work that often exhausts us physically and mentally. For some that exhaustion may lead to compassion fatigue, burnout, or worse.
This workshop will teach you about the evidence-based science behind thriving in the workplace and beyond. You’ll learn about the concept of human well-being and why workplaces that foster a culture of employee well-being actually perform better. At day’s end you’ll leave with actionable, proven strategies for beginning your journey from “survive to thrive” and tangible data to help convince your hospital owner of the value of supporting well-being for the entire team.
- What exactly is well-being? Understanding the science of positive psychology
- What does the research tell us Part 1? The upsides of well-being – in the hospital AND beyond
- State of the industry – what does well-being look like in vet med these days
- What does the research tell us Part 2? What types of positive interventions actually work
- Exploring the possibilities – real life examples of positive organizations
- Let’s build your long term well-being! Developing your work-life “PERMA Plan” to improve your own well-being

Marianne Mallonee, CVPM
Marianne Mallonee, CVPM is the Co-Founder of Flourish Veterinary Consulting. She began her adventure in veterinary medicine in 1988 and entered into the management/leadership world in the mid-1990s. Her defining role was owner and leader of Wheat Ridge Animal Hospital, a large specialty, emergency and general practice hospital. However, after helping navigate the large-scale merger and creation of Ethos Veterinary Health, she found herself in a new reality of having spent all of her energy. Recognizing that a leader can’t lead on empty, she made the toughest decision of her life and stepped away from her position in the company she loved. Since then she’s committed to rejuvenating herself and having a positive impact on others by helping folks in the veterinary field (and beyond) grow, thrive, and flourish. Marianne has certificates in Change Management, Extended DISC, and Positive Psychology and is certified Equine Gestalt Coaching Method practitioner.
